Moel Bronmiod

The walk up Moel Bronmiod isn't long, but it's steep enough that you'll feel it in your legs. This modest peak rises above the landscape around Caernarfon and rewards you with views across the Menai Strait toward Anglesey - on a clear day, you can pick out Snowdon brooding in the distance.

It's a straightforward hill walk rather than a technical scramble. The path is well-trodden and obvious, taking roughly 45 minutes to an hour from the base depending on your fitness. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might find the gradient tedious. What you get at the summit is space and air - not a crowded viewpoint, just a proper sense of being somewhere worthwhile.

If you're staying at one of the campsites dotted around the area - Gyrn Ddu or Aberafon are closest, or the glamping spots further afield - this works as a good morning outing before heading elsewhere. It's free and accessible year-round, though wet weather makes the final stretch muddy. Go early to avoid the afternoon mist rolling in off the coast.

The appeal is quiet and personal rather than showy. You won't find facilities at the top, so bring water. It's the sort of walk that clears your head between seaside time and whatever else Caernarfon has on offer. Worth half a day of your holiday, not more - but that half day will stick with you.
