Moorlands Wood

Walk into Moorlands Wood and you'll find yourself under a proper canopy of ancient oaks and beeches - the sort of place where the light filters through in dusty shafts and you can actually hear yourself think. It's a straightforward woodland walk near Sevenoaks, nothing fancy, just good honest forest with decent paths that don't require specialist kit.

The wood itself is fairly compact, so you're not looking at an all-day expedition. Most people clock an hour to ninety minutes here, depending on how many wrong turns you fancy taking. The paths wind through mixed woodland with the occasional clearing where you get a proper sense of the space. There's something oddly restorative about it - the kind of place where families with younger children won't get restless, and older walkers will appreciate the quietness without needing to trek for miles.

It's free to access, which is always welcome. Best visited in autumn when the leaf colour is on, though spring brings bluebells if you time it right. Summer can feel a bit muggy under all that growth. Winter's fine too - muddy but manageable.

If you're based at River View Camping just down the road, Moorlands Wood makes an easy morning out before settling back for a proper lunch. It's the sort of Kent woodland that's genuinely pleasant without demanding much of you - worth the detour if you're in Sevenoaks, but not worth driving across the county for on its own.
