Moulton Park

A proper slice of Lincolnshire wetland that doesn't require a guide book or a packed lunch to enjoy. Moulton Park is a working nature reserve just outside Spalding, the kind of place where you can actually spot something - marsh harriers, lapwings, the odd kingfisher if you're lucky enough. The reserve sits across two main areas: open water and reed beds, with viewing platforms dotted about so you're not trudging through mud in your best shoes.

It's ideal for birdwatchers, obviously, but also decent for families who can sit still for twenty minutes without complaint. Allow an hour minimum, longer if you've got binoculars and patience. The walking isn't strenuous - mostly flat tracks with decent viewing points - though it's worth checking wind direction because the smell of the marshes can get a bit ripe on still days.

What makes it work as part of a caravan holiday is the straightforward geography. Delph Bank Touring Glamping Park and The Lawns are both within striking distance, putting you within reasonable reach of proper countryside without being miles from Spalding's cafes and chip shops. Go early morning if you want to see anything worthwhile - the birds certainly aren't interested in crowds at midday. Free to enter, which is refreshing, and there's no pretence about it being more than what it is: a functional, working reserve that happens to be genuinely good for wildlife.
