Muckleburgh Hill

At 329 metres, Muckleburgh Hill is Norfolk's highest point - which sounds grander than it actually is. There's no dramatic summit, no cairn, no sweeping views across three counties. What you get instead is a modest rise near Holt that's barely noticeable unless you're specifically looking for it. The walk up takes minutes rather than hours, and the surrounding heath and woodland are pleasant enough, but don't expect your legs to feel properly tested.

This is very much a tick-box sort of attraction. Peak baggers will want to get it done, families won't find it particularly gripping (kids will ask "is this it?" about halfway through), and serious walkers should probably save their energy for the proper walking country further west. That said, the approach through Kelling Heath is genuinely nice - proper Norfolk heathland with gorse and heather - so it's worth combining with a longer ramble rather than treating it as a destination in itself.

Stay at Kelling Heath Holiday Park just 1.1 miles away and you're practically on the doorstep. From there, you can knock off Muckleburgh as part of a bigger day out exploring the heath and the coast at Sheringham, which is only a few miles north. The local pubs around Holt are worth seeking out once you've finished.

Free to visit, no facilities at the summit, and best tackled as a morning stroll rather than a main event.
