Muddymoor Copse

A proper woodland walk just outside Minehead, Muddymoor Copse is the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan for. The forest floor here is thick with moss and fallen branches - it feels genuinely wild, not manicured. You're walking through mixed woodland with enough cover that even on a grey Somerset afternoon it stays interesting.

This is walker territory, though anyone can manage it. The paths are clear enough but they're not tarmacked or heavily maintained, so decent boots matter. There's no visitor centre, no café, no facilities that I could find - you're coming here to walk among the trees, not for attractions. Allow an hour to ninety minutes depending on which routes you take. It's free, which helps justify what is frankly quite a modest woodland experience.

Kids will get something out of it if they're the type to enjoy forest exploration - building dens, spotting wildlife, that sort of thing. Older walkers and nature enthusiasts will appreciate the quietness and the fact it hasn't been turned into a themed experience. It's genuine Somerset woodland, which is its strength and its limitation.

If you're staying at Hoburne Blue Anchor or Warren Bay - both barely a mile away - it's an obvious addition to your holiday. Easy enough to do in an afternoon without much planning. For those at Butlins or the bigger parks further out, it's less of a draw unless you specifically want some proper forest time away from the holiday park buzz.
