Treborough Common

The walk up Treborough Common rewards you with views that stretch all the way across to the Bristol Channel. On a clear day you can pick out Wales in the distance, which feels rather generous for a Somerset hillside. It's a proper breezy spot - the kind of place where you need to hold onto your hat rather than your sense of calm.

The common itself is moorland, rough and open, with rough grass and bracken underfoot. The actual summit is marked but unremarkable - a few stones, nothing fancy. What matters is the walking. From Minehead, it's accessible enough for families with decent legs, though younger children might find the exposed ridge a bit much on gusty days. The paths are clear and well-trodden, so navigation isn't troublesome.

You're looking at a good two to three hours for a proper outing with time to sit at the top and get your breath back. The common is free to access, as commons tend to be. Best visited when the wind isn't trying to push you off the ridge - late spring and early autumn tend to work well.

History buffs won't find much here - it's purely about landscape and a decent walk - but walkers will absolutely rate it.
