Muirden Feed a Lamb

There's something about hand-feeding a lamb that cuts through all the usual tourist nonsense. Muirden, just outside Banff in Aberdeenshire, gives you exactly that - a chance to get up close with young lambs and actually feel like you're doing something proper rather than just gawping at a view.

It's a working farm setup, so what you get depends on the time of year and what the lambs need. During peak season you'll be bottle-feeding, which is the main draw. The animals are used to people, calm enough for kids to handle without drama, but they're not overly fussed or tame in that slightly sad way. They still act like lambs.

Two hours maximum, honestly. It's not a sprawling attraction - you feed, you pet, you take photos, you're done. That suits family holidays perfectly though. It breaks up a caravan park stay at Turriff, just down the road, without requiring a full day's commitment or a drive into town. Parents get a genuine break from refereeing boredom in the caravan.

Best visited in spring and early summer when there are actually lambs about. Ring ahead before you go - opening times aren't exactly posted everywhere, and you'll want to know if they're doing feeding sessions that day. The Highland scenery around Banff is decent enough, but frankly you're coming here for the lambs, not the landscape.
