Mynydd Bangor

Standing at 421 metres, this modest peak offers proper views across the Menai Strait without the crowds you'll find on Snowdonia's bigger hills. The climb up Mynydd Bangor is straightforward enough for most families with older children, though the rocky sections near the top require a bit of care.

From the summit, you can see clear across to the mainland and Bangor itself sprawling below. On a decent day, the view stretches from Anglesey's coastline right across to Snowdonia's peaks - well worth the hour-long trudge up.

Walkers looking for something more challenging than a beach stroll will find this fits the bill perfectly. The path isn't waymarked, so bring a map if you're not confident with navigation. Families with teenagers will manage fine, but it's probably too much for little ones.

Parking can be tricky - there's no designated car park, so you'll need to find a sensible spot roadside. The walk starts from near the A5 between Bangor and Bethesda.

If you're staying at one of the holiday parks dotted around this part of Anglesey, like Tros Y Waen or Kingsbridge Caravan Park, this makes a decent half-day expedition when the weather's cooperating. Just don't expect wilderness - you're never far from civilisation here.
