Mynydd Llanelidan

The walk up Mynydd Llanelidan from Ruthin takes about an hour and rewards you with proper 360-degree views across Denbighshire and into the Clwydian Range. It's not dramatic in the Alpine sense, but the kind of steady climb that feels genuinely accomplished when you reach the summit cairn. The peak sits at around 1,200 feet, so nothing too punishing, though the final push gets a bit steep.

On a clear day you can pick out Ruthin itself falling away below you, and the countryside rolls out in all directions with decent visibility into Wales proper. The footpaths are well-trodden and fairly obvious, making it manageable for families with older kids or anyone after a solid morning's walking. Walkers will appreciate the quietness compared to the busier Clwydian peaks further west.

Timing-wise, allow three hours return with a break at the top. Go when the weather's settled - cloud comes in fast here. It's free, obviously, and you can start directly from town or park near the trailhead. The walk suits anyone staying at Clwydian Glamping Pods and Campsite nearby, which is just 2.7 miles away and genuinely excellent if you want a proper base for exploring the whole Denbighshire range. This isn't a famous summit, which is rather the point. You'll likely have it to yourself.
