National Trust Caeau Glan-y-Môr

The coastal meadows here, just outside Pentraeth on Anglesey, are what the National Trust keeps this land for - and once you're actually standing on it, you understand why. Caeau Glan-y-Môr translates to 'fields by the sea', which is exactly what you get: open grassland sloping down toward the water, with proper views across to the mainland and the Snowdonia hills beyond when the weather plays ball.

It's not a place with facilities or attractions in the traditional sense. There's no cafe, no visitor centre, no marked trails with interpretive boards. What you're getting is access to a genuine slice of Anglesey's coastline - the sort of place where locals walk their dogs and it feels like you've stumbled onto something the tourists haven't queued up for yet. The meadows are worth exploring on foot, and the walking is straightforward enough for families with younger children, though it can get muddy after rain.

This works best if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks like Podiau Môn or Ael y Garnedd - it's genuinely local, no more than a couple of miles away. Bring a good pair of shoes and allow an hour to properly wander about. Birdwatchers and nature types will get more out of it than people after views and photo stops. There's something restorative about just being on open ground with wind and water; no performance required.
