National Trust - Longshaw

You're looking at a working landscape, not some manicured garden. There's a Victorian shooting lodge at the heart of it, but honestly, the main draw is the walking.

The terrain suits anyone who fancies a decent stride without needing ropes and crampons. Families with mobile kids do well here - there are gentler paths through the woodland if the open moor feels too exposed, and the sheer scale of the place means you won't feel crowded even on weekends. History types will appreciate the lodge and the evidence of Victorian land management, but don't expect interpretation signs at every turn. This is somewhere you come to breathe and walk, not to stand still.

Allow a good few hours to make it worthwhile. The estate sits roughly 3 miles from North Lees Campsite and under 4 miles from both Secret Wood Glamping and Wyming Brook Farm, making it a natural base for a Derbyshire park holiday. Morning light hits the moor beautifully, and autumn transforms the heather into something genuinely striking. Winter can be grim and exposed - go when you've got decent weather.
