About National Trust - Rhossili and South Gower Coast

The cliffs here drop straight into the sea. Three Cliffs Bay spreads out below you on one side, Rhossili Beach stretches for miles on the other, and if the light's right you can see the Worm's Head jutting into the Bristol Channel like something from another world. This is the National Trust's South Gower Coast, and it's genuinely one of the best coastal walks in Wales.

You get proper drama without needing technical skills or special gear. The clifftop path meanders for about six miles depending on which bits you fancy, taking in Paviland Cave (where Neolithic folk left their mark) and some of the most unspoiled coastline South Wales has to offer. The beach below Rhossili is famous - three miles of sand, backed by a massive dune system - but the views from above are what stay with you.

Walkers will spend a good three to four hours up here if they do the full stretch. Families with younger kids can do shorter sections - the walk from Rhossili car park to the Worm's Head access point is manageable in an hour or so, though the Worm itself is tidal and fiddly. History buffs will appreciate the cave, the old medieval settlement ruins you spot along the way, and the sense that people have lived and worked this stretch for thousands of years.

Free to access. Head out when the weather's clear - the mist can roll in fast and swallow the views entirely. Base yourself at one of the caravan parks nearby - Pitton Cross and Hillend are barely two miles away - and make this your first morning expedition. Gower Farm, just three miles off, gives you easy access without the tourist crowds of Swansea proper.
