About National Trust - Wembury
The main draw is the South West Coast Path, which runs right through here. Walk it in either direction and the cliffs reveal themselves gradually - golden and grey rock strata tilting at drunken angles, the sort of geology that makes sense once you're looking at it. The beach itself is pebbly and backed by dramatic cliffs, good for a proper scramble if the tide's out. Rock pooling works reasonably well too, especially if you time it right after a good low tide.
Wembury suits walkers more than casual visitors. If you're after a ten-minute stroll and a photo, you'll be done quickly. But spend a couple of hours here and the landscape quietly reveals itself. The walk down to the headland takes maybe twenty minutes, which feels about right - far enough to feel like you've actually gone somewhere, not so far your legs hate you.
The beach car park charges for parking, which is the NT's standard arrangement. It's a solid morning or afternoon stop if you're staying at Hidden Hill nearby or exploring the wider Plymouth coastline. On a proper sunny day it's genuinely lovely. In the wind and rain, it's atmospheric - sometimes the better option.
