New Roll-up

The New Roll-up is a proper quirky landmark just outside Bridlington, one of those oddball Yorkshire attractions that makes you wonder why it exists - and then you're oddly glad it does. It's basically what it sounds like: a giant rolled structure that's become something of a local talking point. The thing sits near the coast, and it's the sort of place where you either get it immediately or you walk away scratching your head.

If you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - The Old Mill is closest at under two miles, or Thornwick Bay Holiday Village if you fancy something with more facilities - it's worth a quick detour while you're in the area. Kids tend to find it amusing for a few minutes, walkers might use it as a photo stop on a coastal route, and anyone after proper obscure North Yorkshire oddities will definitely want to tick it off.

Word of warning: don't expect a full morning's entertainment. This is a thirty-minute job at most, unless you're the type who enjoys standing around trying to work out what something actually means. The real appeal is the 'I found this' factor - that slightly bewildered satisfaction of stumbling on something genuinely strange near a seaside town. Bridlington itself has enough to keep you occupied for a day or two, so slot this in as a little curiosity between the main attractions rather than planning a trip around it specifically.
