About Nipper's Grove
This is walker territory, full stop. The woodland here is genuine old growth rather than plantation blocks, which makes a real difference to the experience. You're looking at somewhere between forty minutes and two hours depending on which route you take and how often you stop to check what's rustling in the undergrowth. Kids will get something out of it - there's enough variation in the terrain to keep younger legs engaged - but it's not a destination on its own. Think of it as a proper walk, not a theme park visit.
The nearest decent base is The Chilterns View holiday park, six miles away near Wallingford. From there you could easily combine this with a day exploring the Thames-side town itself, or use it as a warm-up before tackling bigger woodland circuits in the Chilterns proper. Free to access, no facilities that I could find, so go prepared. Best in autumn when the canopy starts turning and the light gets interesting through the leaves.
