North Dorset Secure Dog Field

Your dog will absolutely lose its mind the moment you arrive at this secure field near Wincanton. It's a proper off-lead paradise for dogs - fenced properly, well-maintained, and somewhere your hound can sprint about without you white-knuckling the lead in panic.

The field itself is straightforward: decent-sized, open space where dogs can burn off energy while you stand around with the other dog owners having that peculiar conversation only dog people have. No fancy facilities, no cafe, no pretentious dog-themed nonsense. Just grass, fencing, and freedom. You'll see everything the place offers in about 30 minutes, though some dogs (and their anxious owners) will happily stay longer.

If you're staying at Sunnyhill Campsite just down the road - which is genuinely solid, by the way, 4.8 stars for a reason - this makes a cracking mid-holiday break from the caravan. Walk your dog there in the morning, let them proper tire themselves out, and you'll get a quieter afternoon back at the site.

Worth a trip? Only if you've got a dog that needs serious exercise. Without one, there's literally nothing here for you. Not fancy enough to be interesting on its own merits, but if you're a dog owner dragging a hyperactive spaniel round Somerset, it solves a real problem. That's its entire job and it does it fine.
