North Downs Way Viewpoint

The view from the North Downs Way stops you dead in your tracks. You'll need to walk to get here - it's part of the appeal, really. The effort means fewer tourists than you'd get at a roadside viewpoint, just walkers catching their breath and taking in the vista. Families with younger kids might find the walk a bit much depending on which access point you use, but anyone who enjoys being on their feet will find it rewarding. History enthusiasts appreciate the chalk downs themselves - ancient routes, Iron Age forts scattered across the ridges.

Maidstone is your nearest town if you need supplies or somewhere to stay. The caravan parks around Bearsted and Chegworth are all within a couple of miles, making this a natural stop if you're touring the area or breaking up a longer walk. Allow a good hour if you're combining it with a proper stretch of the North Downs Way rather than just nipping out for the view. No entrance fee, no opening hours to worry about - you just turn up and walk. Best visited in morning light when the mist clears, or late afternoon when the sun picks out the field patterns below.
