North Strip

The North Strip is one of those woodland patches that locals know about but most visitors miss entirely. It's a proper forest walk just outside Morpeth, the kind of place where you can actually lose yourself for an hour without hearing much beyond birdsong and the occasional snap of a twig underfoot.

What you're getting here is straightforward - dense woodland, good paths winding through, and the sense of being genuinely away from things. There's no visitor centre or fancy infrastructure. It's just trees, space, and quiet. The walk itself isn't taxing, which makes it ideal if you've got older kids or anyone not keen on scrambling up hills. You can knock out a decent loop in under two hours without any fuss.

Walkers will appreciate this more than families with young children, if I'm honest. There's not much to do once you're in there except walk and look around - which is exactly the point, really. That said, it's the sort of place kids exploring nature for the first time will find genuinely interesting, spotting wildlife and climbing over fallen logs.

If you're staying at Forget Me Not Country Park nearby, you're well positioned to pop over for a morning ramble. It's close enough that you won't waste petrol money, but different enough from the park itself to break up your holiday. Morpeth's only a few miles away if you need tea and a biscuit afterwards. Access shouldn't be an issue, though it's worth checking conditions after heavy rain - these northern woodlands can get boggy.
