Northbank Secure Dog Field

The fenced field at Northbank, just outside Cupar, is exactly what it says on the tin - a secure space where dogs can properly run about without you losing sleep about them bolting off down the road. It's a working solution rather than a destination, but if you're staying at South Valleyfield with a nervous or energetic dog, it's genuinely useful.

There's not much to it, truth be told. You'll find a decent-sized enclosure with proper fencing, enough room for dogs to tire themselves out without feeling cramped. The ground's a bit variable depending on the weather - muddy patches in winter, dried out in summer - but that's the nature of open fields. Good for dogs that need to burn energy off-lead, or ones that aren't reliable with recall around livestock and traffic.

If you're camping or caravanning in the area with a dog, this takes the edge off having to restrict your pet to the site all day. It's the sort of place you'd use for thirty minutes to an hour, not an afternoon outing. Bring a ball or a toy if your dog needs proper stimulation. The field gets busy in peak season with other dog owners, which some dogs love and others find chaotic - know your animal.

It works well alongside a Fife holiday, breaking up longer drives between attractions. Not somewhere to plan your entire trip around, but genuinely helpful if you're travelling with a dog that needs proper exercise.
