Novers Coppice

Walk into Novers Coppice and you're immediately surrounded by mature woodland that feels properly removed from the Shrewsbury sprawl, despite being barely a mile outside town. It's a working forest with good walking tracks threading through - nothing too challenging, but enough variety to keep you entertained for a solid couple of hours if you're keen on trees and fresh air.

The coppice works well for families who want an easy woodland wander without the tourist machinery of somewhere bigger. Kids tend to enjoy poking about in the undergrowth and spotting birds, though it's not a destination with play equipment or facilities - bring your own sense of adventure. Dog walkers love it. Serious hikers might find it a touch limited, but it slots nicely into a broader Shropshire walking plan.

Stay at Lower Hill Campsite just under a mile away and you've got a convenient morning or afternoon ramble on your doorstep. Spring Field Dark Skies Eco Camp is also close by if you're after something with a bit more character. The forest is free to access and there's no particular time you need to visit, though damp ground is pretty much guaranteed here - proper walking boots make sense.

Honestly, it's not a destination worth planning your holiday around alone. But as part of a Shropshire break, particularly if you're based at one of the nearby campsites, it punches well above its weight. Local, low-key, and exactly what a working coppice should be.
