Families with younger children might find it a bit static - there's no visitor centre or interpretive panels that I'm aware of, so you need to bring your own curiosity.

Its real value emerges when you're basing yourself at one of the nearby campsites - Lower Hill Campsite sits practically on the doorstep, whilst Spring Field Dark Skies Eco Camp and the others put you within easy reach. Combine it with walks along the Severn and a mooch around Shrewsbury town itself. Worth the detour if you're staying locally, less essential if you're just passing through.
