Nurstead Copse

A proper woodland walk rather than a destination in itself, Nurstead Copse sits just outside Petersfield and gives you the kind of forest floor experience Hampshire does well - dappled light, birdsong, and enough space to actually breathe. The trees are mixed and mature, with paths that wind through without feeling over-managed. You're looking at a solid hour here if you take it slowly, maybe less if you're just after a leg-stretch.

It's the sort of place walkers genuinely prefer to the more famous spots. No crowds, no visitor centre, no gift shop trying to sell you a mug with a pheasant on it. Families with young kids will find it manageable enough, though there's nothing specifically laid on to keep them entertained beyond the obvious climbing-on-logs appeal. Birdwatchers and photographers often know it better than the general public.

The real value here is as part of a wider park holiday. Cedar Valley sits just 4.7 miles away and Bow Hill Farm over in West Sussex is barely further, so you can use Nurstead as a morning walk before heading back for lunch. It works especially well in spring when the woodland floor comes alive, or autumn when the light gets interesting. If you're staying in the area and planning a sequence of walks rather than ticking boxes, this absolutely deserves an hour. As a standalone trip from Petersfield though? Only if you're already nearby or someone's told you specifically about it.
