Nut Wood

The woodland paths through Nut Wood offer a proper escape from Beverley's market town bustle - it's barely a few miles out but feels genuinely remote. Mixed broadleaf forest, mostly beech and oak, with well-trodden trails that meander through decent stands of mature trees. The canopy work is impressive in autumn, admittedly less so come July when it's just thick green overhead.

Walkers will get the most from this one. There's no visitor centre, no tea room, no interpretation boards - just woodland as it comes. You're looking at anything from a quick 45-minute loop to a couple of hours if you explore the outer paths properly. The terrain's gentle enough for families with older kids, though pushchairs would be a nightmare on the narrower bits.

It's the sort of place that rewards an early morning visit before anyone else shows up, or a winter walk when the leaf litter is deep and the light comes through sideways. Summer weekends can get surprisingly busy with local dog walkers. Free to access - no gates, no charges, just pull in and go.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan sites - Butt Farm or Willow Pond are both within striking distance - Nut Wood makes for a solid half-day addition to your itinerary. Pair it with a browse of Beverley's Georgian centre and you've got a day sorted. Nothing spectacular, but exactly what you need when you want an actual woodland walk rather than a attraction with facilities.
