Oakley Bushes

Oakley Bushes is a proper woodland walk just outside Kettering, the sort of place that doesn't announce itself much but rewards a quiet morning or afternoon among the trees. You're walking through mixed broadleaf forest here, nothing especially dramatic but genuinely pleasant - the kind of spot where you actually notice birdsong because there's no road noise drowning it out.

It's ideal for families with younger kids who need a gentle woodland ramble without the commitment of a full-day hike. Allow about an hour if you're ambling, less if you're purposeful. The trails are straightforward enough, though I'd not call them manicured - this feels like proper countryside rather than a managed country park.

Historically it's not one for the guidebooks, but the woodland itself has that settled, old feeling that comes from trees being left alone. Walkers will get the most from it, especially those based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Northfield Farm, Brightside, or Lakeview are all within easy striking distance if you're doing a Kettering-area holiday. Get Lost In Nature is slightly further out but also accessible.

There's no visitor centre or café that I'm aware of, so bring what you need. Parking details and specific opening hours aren't clearly signposted online, so ring ahead or ask locally in Kettering. It's free in the sense that most woodland walks are - you just turn up and go. Not Instagram-famous, not packed at weekends, just a genuine bit of Northamptonshire woodland doing what it does best.
