Ogden Water Country Park

The reservoir sprawls across the valley floor like someone's forgotten bathtub - vast, orderly, and surprisingly good for a proper walk. Ogden Water, just outside Keighley, is one of those Yorkshire spots that locals know inside out but never quite makes it onto the tourist board posters.

It's a working water supply, so don't expect wild swimming or paddling about, but the walking is genuinely first-rate. A circuit around the perimeter takes the best part of an hour at a steady pace, with decent views across the water to the moorland beyond. The path's well-maintained, mostly level, and close enough to Keighley that it works as an afternoon sortie without requiring a full day's commitment.

Families with primary school kids will get decent value here - it's not so long that little legs get bored, and there's enough open space to let them burn energy without risk. Older walkers appreciate the accessible routes and the chance to clock up a few miles without scrambling over fell gates. The moorland backdrop reminds you just how quickly the landscape changes up here.

Admission should be free - it's a public park - though opening hours vary seasonally. Visit outside school holidays if crowds matter to you; the reservoir draws a fair few at weekends. If you're based at Two Acre Camping or Upwood Holiday Park nearby, it's well worth the short drive. Combine it with a walk up into the higher moorland if you've got the legs for it. Proper Yorkshire walking, nothing fancy.
