Ogof y Gaseg

Deep underground near Llandudno lies one of North Wales' more demanding cave systems. Ogof y Gaseg translates to 'Mare's Cave' in Welsh, and the name hints at the wild, untamed nature of what awaits below ground. This isn't your typical tourist cave with handrails and electric lighting - it's a proper potholing experience that requires headlamps, waterproofs and a fair bit of nerve.

Serious cavers will find the passages challenging but rewarding, with tight squeezes that open into larger chambers. The limestone formations are impressive when your torch beam catches them, though you'll be too busy concentrating on your footing most of the time. Not recommended for claustrophobic types or anyone expecting a gentle stroll.

Families staying at nearby parks like Hafan y Gogarth or Aberconwy Resort would be better off with the Great Orme's more accessible attractions. This is strictly for experienced cavers or those joining proper guided expeditions with local caving groups. The entrance can be tricky to find without local knowledge, and conditions underground change with the weather.
