Oham Lakes

Three small interconnected lakes tucked away in the Lincolnshire countryside, just a short drive from Alford. These aren't dramatic mountain tarns - think more peaceful fishing spots with grassy banks and the odd swan for company. The setting is properly rural, surrounded by farmland with views stretching across the flat East Midlands landscape.

Anglers make up most of the regulars here, casting for carp and roach from the well-maintained pegs. But even if fishing isn't your thing, it's a lovely spot for a quiet walk or to let the kids burn off energy without the crowds you'd find at bigger attractions. The paths around the water are generally firm underfoot, though Wellington boots wouldn't go amiss after rain.

Families staying at nearby sites like Haven Golden Sands or Woodthorpe Leisure Park often use this as a peaceful escape from the beach crowds. It's particularly good for toddlers who can safely toddle about while parents keep half an eye on them. Dog walkers love it too - plenty of space to let them off the lead.

Expect to spend an hour or so here unless you're settling in for a proper fishing session. Best visited on weekday mornings when you'll likely have the place largely to yourself. Not exactly a headline attraction, but a proper slice of rural Lincolnshire that costs nothing and delivers exactly what it promises.
