Old warren hill

The walk up Old Warren Hill rewards you with proper views across Cardigan Bay and back toward Aberystwyth. It's not a dramatic peak - more of a steady climb through farmland and rough scrubland - but that's rather the point. The hill sits just inland from the coast, making it ideal if you want to escape the busier seafront without venturing too far from town.

The summit itself offers a decent vantage point for spotting the curve of the bay and, on clear days, you can pick out Penbryn beach to the south. The walk takes about 45 minutes each way depending on your pace and route choice. There's no formal path marked throughout, so go with proper walking shoes and check the weather - it can get exposed and muddy after rain.

Historically, warrens were common across Welsh uplands as a managed resource for rabbit farming, though there's precious little visible evidence of Old Warren Hill's medieval past now. It's more about the walk itself than any dramatic ruins or monuments.

Walkers staying at Aberystwyth Holiday Village or Silver Fern Glamping are within easy reach for an afternoon outing. It works well as a half-day excursion before heading to Clarach Bay Holiday Village or one of the other parks dotted around the area. You won't find crowds here, which is a genuine plus if you're after something quieter than the town's more popular trails.
