The museum sits in Ormskirk town centre, a market town that feels like Lancashire's proper backbone. Inside you'll find local history laid out in the way regional museums do best - not flashy, just honest stuff about how people actually lived here. Roman finds, medieval bits, Victorian trade goods. The sort of collection that makes sense only if you care about Lancashire's story, which you might after a few days in the area.

It's worth an hour if you're passing through Ormskirk anyway, less compelling as a standalone trip. Families with older kids who ask questions about the past will get more from it than those after instant thrills. Little ones tend to get bored after twenty minutes of glass cases.

The town itself is pleasant enough for a wander - proper old-school market town character - and close enough to the glamping spots around Heaton's Bridge that you could combine it with outdoor time. The Secret Garden Glamping and Four Seasons are both within easy reach, as is Leisure Lakes if you fancy something more structured. On a wet afternoon when the weather's closed in, it serves a purpose. It's not the sort of place you plan your whole trip around, but if you're based at one of the local parks and need an indoor option, it'll do the job.
