Osier Bed

The Osier Bed is a working willow plantation just outside Wingrave, and it's genuinely one of those places that catches you off guard. You're walking through proper traditional English countryside and suddenly there's this managed expanse of slim, elegant willow stems growing in neat rows - some freshly harvested, others ready for cutting. It's the sort of landscape you'd see in a painting from the 1950s, except it's still functioning exactly as it has for generations.

The appeal here depends entirely on what you're after. If you're into traditional crafts or woodland management, this is fascinating - you can see how osiers are grown for basket-weaving and other heritage work. For a casual family walk, it's pleasant enough but won't hold attention for hours. There's something meditative about the geometry of the planted rows, and in spring and early summer it's genuinely pretty. Winter's bleaker.

Access seems to be fairly open, though I'd check locally in Wingrave before assuming you can just turn up. It's not a formal visitor attraction with a visitor centre or facilities. Allowing 30 to 45 minutes for a walk through is about right unless you're particularly keen on horticulture.

If you're staying at nearby Wingbury Farm Glamping, the Osier Bed makes for a decent leg-stretch during a broader country walk around the area. Don't go out of your way for it alone, but if you're in the neighbourhood and interested in how things actually grow, it's worth the detour.
