Out Park

Out Park rises above Dalton-in-Furness as a proper fell walk without the serious altitude. It's the kind of peak that rewards you with views across Morecambe Bay and towards the Lake District fells, but doesn't demand fellwear or a dawn start. The walk itself is straightforward - mostly paths and moorland, taking the better part of an hour from town. On a clear day you genuinely can see across to Barrow and beyond. Worth noting: this isn't dramatic Alpine scenery. It's understated, honest Cumbrian moorland with the estuary sprawling below you.

Families with older kids will find it manageable, though younger ones might flag on the ascent. Walkers after something between a stroll and a mountain hike will get proper value here. History buffs should know there's enough archaeology on and around the fell to make the walk intellectually interesting too.

Allow two hours return if you're stopping for views and taking photographs. You could easily combine this with Harbour Lights Campsite and Holiday Park just down the road - they're only 5.5 miles away - and work it into a broader Cumbrian fell day. High Haume Glamping, at 3.6 miles, sits even closer. October through April offer the clearest views when the air is sharpest. It's free, obviously, being a fell. No visitor centre, no facilities on the hill itself, so take what you need from Dalton.
