Palmer Park in Wokingham is essentially a working leisure complex rather than a tourist destination, but if you're staying at California Chalet nearby and fancy a proper workout or swim, it's handy enough. The stadium hosts athletics events and the leisure centre has a pool, gym, and sports halls - the sort of place you'd come to actually use rather than wander around gawping at.

It's worth knowing upfront: this isn't a grounds you visit for a stroll. The appeal is entirely functional. Families with kids who swim competitively or runners training for a race might squeeze some value out of it, but casual visitors will be disappointed. You're not getting views, heritage, or anything particularly memorable.

If you're based at California Chalet for a week and someone in the group is desperate for a gym session or lap swim, Palmer Park is only about six miles away - Reading's closer for actual attractions, though. Phone ahead to check current opening hours and whether day passes are available, as leisure centre access varies. The facilities look modern enough but it's very much a local amenity rather than a holiday highlight.
