Pant y Llyn

Pant y Llyn is a modest lake just outside Builth Wells in Powys, the sort of place you'd stumble upon whilst exploring the quieter bits of Mid Wales rather than deliberately plan a day around. It's a working reservoir - functional, calm, surrounded by rough grassland and distant hills that shift colour depending on the light. You can walk the perimeter if the mood takes you, though it's not a long circuit and there's no formal infrastructure to speak of.

Walkers get the most from it, honestly. It's a decent leg-stretcher if you're camping nearby at Celtic Woodland Holidays or one of the other parks clustered around Builth Wells, and the water itself is pleasant to look at without being dramatic. Photographers might find something in the early morning or when the weather turns moody. Families with small children will probably get restless after twenty minutes unless they're the type keen on counting waterfowl.

There's no admission charge as far as anyone can tell, and you can access it during daylight hours year-round. Don't expect facilities - bring what you need. The real value here is its position within a broader walking network around the Irfon Valley. Pair it with the nearby camping and glamping spots if you're doing a couple of nights in the area, but don't treat it as a destination in itself. It's the sort of lake that enhances a weekend rather than making one.
