Pattack Falls

The waterfall itself is the real draw here - Pattack Falls crashes down a narrow gorge near Newtonmore with proper force, especially after rain. You're looking at a genuine Highland spate, white water throwing itself over dark rock into a pool below. The walk in isn't onerous, maybe twenty minutes from the car park, and the path clings to the side of the ravine as you descend.

It's the sort of place that rewards a return visit depending on the weather. Summer visitors might find it a trickle - pleasant enough but nothing to write home about. Come in autumn or spring when the snowmelt's pushing through, and you'll understand why it's worth the detour from Newtonmore. The light's tricky to photograph but the raw energy of the thing is hard to ignore.

Families with reasonably mobile kids will manage the walk fine. Anyone with accessibility concerns should know the path's narrow and steep in places - not a casual amble. Allow an hour there and back unless you're the type to sit on a rock for ages studying the geology.
