Pecorama

Pecorama is a working model railway set in a purpose-built setting near Seaton, Devon - think miniature trains running through landscaped valleys, bridges, and Victorian-era stations. You get two separate gauge railways to watch: the narrow gauge Peco Demonstration Line and the standard gauge layout, both dotted with meticulous detail work that'll hold your attention far longer than you'd expect.

It's genuinely worth an hour or two, especially if you've got model railway enthusiasts in tow. Kids under seven might lose interest quickly - there's only so much watching tiny trains can hold their attention - but anyone who likes seeing how things work or appreciates proper craftsmanship will find something to enjoy. The layouts change seasonally and the folk running it clearly care about getting the details right.

Entry costs a few quid and it's free to wander the grounds outside. Operating days vary, so check ahead before you trek over - you don't want to arrive on a Tuesday in November expecting to find everything running. Given its proximity to Beer Head Holiday Park - less than half a mile away - it makes for an easy half-day outing if the weather turns. Oakdown, a few miles inland, also puts you within reasonable striking distance. Neither park is far enough away to make Pecorama feel like a slog, which matters when you've got restless kids in the car.
