Phennick Cove Marina

The marina sits on the edge of Downpatrick, a working waterfront that actually feels like a place where boats belong rather than a tourist stage set. You'll find fishing vessels, a handful of leisure craft, and the kind of genuine maritime activity that doesn't exist in many Northern Irish harbours anymore. It's low-key - there's no grand promenade or gift shops, just water, working boats, and decent views across to the surrounding countryside.

Walkers and bird-watchers get the most from this spot. The foreshore walk is genuinely pleasant, and if you time it right you'll catch cormorants and herons working the water. It's not a destination in itself - you won't spend hours here - but it's exactly the sort of place that breaks up a caravan holiday nicely. Twenty minutes of fresh air, a bit of watching the boats, and you're ready to move on.

Being barely a mile from Coneyisland Caravan Park makes it convenient for morning strolls before breakfast. Edgewater, further out at 4.3 miles, is worth knowing about if you want slightly more breathing room on your park, though it means a short drive to get here. The whole thing is free - you just turn up and wander about.

Don't expect manicured gardens or interpretive boards. This is proper working Downpatrick, and that's precisely why it's worth the visit.
