Pippler Lane Wood

You won't find Pippler Lane Wood on many tourist maps, which is rather the point. It's a proper woodland walk just outside Glastonbury, the kind of place where the Somerset levels feel a world away even though you're never far from civilisation. The trees form a quiet corridor - mostly deciduous, dappled light filtering through in that way that makes you forget how close you are to town.

This is woodland walking at its most straightforward. No dramatic viewpoints or ancient monuments, just the peace of a managed forest with decent paths underfoot. You're looking at something between 30 minutes and an hour depending on how you wander, and it works brilliantly as a leg-stretcher between bigger attractions or as a proper stomp if you want to clear your head. The paths are generally accessible, though muddy patches aren't rare after rain.

Walkers and anyone after a bit of green quiet will find it worthwhile. Kids might get restless unless they're the type who enjoy spotting wildlife rather than climbing rocks. It's genuinely free and there's no faffing about with car parks or entry fees.

If you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots - Tall Trees or Old Oaks are both excellent - Pippler Lane makes a natural morning or evening addition to your days. Pair it with the Tor or some of Glastonbury's stranger attractions and you've got a balanced mix of Somerset. Come early in the day if you want any solitude; it's popular locally without ever feeling crowded.
