Ribby Hall's pirate golf course is one of those attractions that sounds daft on paper but actually delivers a proper laugh. You're whacking a ball around an 18-hole miniature course done up with all the pirate theatrics you'd expect - ships, barrels, plank bridges, the lot. It's cheerful stuff, genuinely well-maintained, and the theming doesn't feel cheap.

Kids absolutely love it. There's enough novelty in each hole to keep them engaged for the full round, which takes maybe 45 minutes depending on crowds. Adults get a decent challenge too - some of the angles are genuinely tricky, not just a straight bash through. You'll need to book ahead most weekends; it's popular with families from Preston and beyond.

The course sits within Ribby Hall Village, a proper holiday destination with caravans and lodges spread across the grounds. If you're staying at Mowbreck Park just down the road (1.4 miles), this makes a solid half-day activity without leaving the area. Rawcliffe Hall is a bit further out at 6.2 miles, but still close enough for an easy trip.

Admission isn't free - expect to pay per person - but it's reasonable money for what you get. Weather-dependent, obviously; a rainy afternoon can either be miserable or add to the comedy depending on your outlook. Go early in the day if you can. It's not going to eat up an entire holiday, but it's the sort of thing that makes a family break in Lancashire feel less like you've just mowed the lawn all week.
