The Fylde coast beckons just a few miles west, but here you're in proper Lancashire countryside - flat fields stretching toward the Pennines, punctuated by the occasional church spire.

Westbury Mills Reservoir makes for a decent walk when the weather's playing ball. It's nothing spectacular, mind you, but the water attracts plenty of birdlife and there's parking nearby. Wild Discovery offers something different - a proper zoo experience that's well worth the trip if you've got kids in tow. The big cats always go down well.

Fylde Sports and Education Centre serves the local community, though visitors might find better sports facilities elsewhere. Dale Air Ltd runs an aviation museum that's genuinely interesting if you're into that sort of thing - proper enthusiasts run the place and it shows.

The train line serves nearby stations, though you'll likely need a car to make the most of the area.

Staying at one of the holiday parks around here makes perfect sense. You're close enough to the coast for day trips but far enough inland to escape the worst of the crowds. Ribby Hall Village anchors the accommodation scene, though several smaller sites offer touring pitches. The Fylde peninsula spreads out before you - part seaside resort, part working farmland, all quintessentially Lancashire.
