It's free to park here, and there's proper infrastructure: decent facilities, space for coaches if needed, and clear signage pointing you toward the walking trails.

What makes this worth stopping for isn't the car park itself, obviously, but what it opens up. The country park sprawls across 120 acres of reclaimed mining land, and the walking routes are genuinely good - some easy loops around the former mining features, others that climb a bit and reward you with views across the Nottinghamshire countryside. History buffs will find the pithead gear and remnants of the industrial past genuinely fascinating. Kids will tolerate it if you make it a proper walk rather than just a gawp, though honestly the novelty of "Mum, there's an old mine" wears thin after twenty minutes or so.
