It's the sort of place where you can burn off an hour or two wandering between the trees without needing to plan the expedition like you're conquering Everest.

What you get is straightforward - forest paths, some decent shade, and the kind of quiet that makes you remember why you came to Lancashire in the first place. No fancy facilities or visitor centre drama. Just woodland. For families based at Royal Umpire or Riverside Holiday Park, it's a useful morning walk before lunch. Walkers will find it competent rather than spectacular. The terrain's manageable, though it can get boggy in wet spells, so bring proper boots if rain's been about.
