Poston Coppice

Poston Coppice is a proper working forest just outside Bridgnorth, where you can wander between coppiced woodland and proper old-growth trees without the crowds you'd get at bigger attractions. It's the kind of place where you actually notice things - the way light filters through hazel and oak, the smell after rain, the occasional glimpse of a muntjac slipping through the undergrowth.

There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, which is either brilliant or frustrating depending on your mood. You turn up, park sensibly, and walk. Most people spend an hour or two here, though if you're the type to sit on a log with a flask and a book, you could stretch it longer.

It works best for walkers who actually like woods rather than attraction-seekers ticking boxes. Kids will manage the paths fine, though there's nothing to keep them entertained beyond sticks and mud. The coppicing history is genuinely interesting if you know what you're looking at - the way trees have been managed here for centuries shows in the structure of the forest floor.
