Quarter-dome Slabs

Serious walkers and climbers know about this rocky outcrop, though most Gower visitors race past without a second glance. Quarter-dome Slabs sit on the limestone cliffs near Swansea, offering some of the peninsula's most dramatic coastal views when you can actually find the place. The rock formations here are proper climbing territory - think white limestone faces that catch the morning light beautifully, with the Bristol Channel stretching endlessly beyond.

Getting there requires a bit of local knowledge and decent footwear. The slabs themselves are free to explore, naturally, but this isn't somewhere to bring small children or anyone who struggles with uneven terrain. Experienced hikers will appreciate the quieter alternative to the packed beaches below, while rock climbers come for the challenging routes up the limestone faces.

Allow a good half day if you're planning to explore properly, and check the weather - these cliffs can be treacherous when wet. The views back towards Swansea Bay are worth the effort on a clear day, though you'll need to work for them. If you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Gower Holiday Village or Bank Farm Leisure, it makes for an excellent morning adventure before the crowds descend on the more famous Gower beaches.
