Queen Victoria Monument

Standing tall in the heart of Newport, this bronze statue of Queen Victoria cuts an imposing figure against the backdrop of the county hall. The monument, erected in 1901 to mark her death, shows the monarch in her later years - stern-faced and draped in heavy robes that speak to the weight of empire.

History buffs will appreciate the Victorian Gothic styling, though the statue itself won't detain you for more than ten minutes. It's more of a pleasant pause during a Newport shopping trip than a destination in its own right.
