Radwell Meadows Country Park

The Meadows at Radwell spread across a decent chunk of Hertfordshire countryside just east of Baldock, and it's one of those places that rewards a quiet morning walk far more than a rushed afternoon visit. You're looking at open grassland, water features, and enough space to actually hear yourself think - which is saying something in the Home Counties.

The main draw here is straightforward: walking. There are paths threading through the site, and the water meadows do their job properly, especially if you're into spotting birds or just wanting a break from traffic noise. It's genuinely restful rather than dramatic. You won't find yourself gasping at vistas, but you also won't feel like you're paying for the privilege of standing in a field.

Families with younger kids might get an hour or so out of it before the novelty of grass wears thin. Walkers and people chasing wildlife photography will find it more rewarding. Spring and early summer are obviously best - winter is just wet mud with ambition.

With Radwell Lake campsite right on the doorstep and Baldock Park Homes just up the road, this is genuinely useful if you're basing yourself at one of the local caravan parks and need somewhere to stretch your legs without driving. Henlow Bridge Lakes is also within reasonable reach if you're mixing and matching activities across the area. Free access, no faffing about with admission fees, and proper countryside that doesn't require a tourist board crown to justify visiting.
