Rams Tor

Rams Tor sits on the edge of Swansea, a proper windswept viewpoint that gives you the sweep of Swansea Bay without the crowds you'd deal with down at the seafront. The walk up takes twenty minutes or so from the car park, and it's steep enough that you'll feel you've earned the view. On a clear day you can see right across the bay - the curve of beach, the industrial sprawl, and if you're lucky, the Gower Peninsula stretching away to the west.

It's the sort of place walkers love. There's proper moorland up here, and the paths are well-trodden but never rammed. Families with half-decent legs will manage it fine, though younger kids might grumble on the way up. The reward at the top is genuine - standing on the tor itself, you get a real sense of scale and geography that you don't get from anywhere else around here.

Wind is the thing to know about. This is an exposed spot, so even on mild days it can feel properly fresh. Summer's your best bet if you want decent visibility, though autumn light is cracking up here. There's nothing to buy, no facilities, so come prepared.

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Nicholaston Farm is closest at just over 6 miles, or Three Cliffs Bay if you fancy something closer to the coast - Rams Tor makes a solid morning excursion. It's not a day in itself, but it's the sort of hill walk that slots nicely between other Gower ventures.
