Raptor World

Birds of prey are the main draw at Raptor World, just outside Cupar in Fife. You'll see everything from owls to eagles, and the handlers actually know their stuff - they talk about the birds like they're proper characters, which makes a difference. The whole thing takes about two hours if you're not in a rush, which is the right length. You're not standing around bored, but you've got time to watch a bird actually do something rather than just sit there looking magnificent.

This works best for families with kids old enough to stand still for a few minutes and actually care about what they're looking at. Toddlers will get restless. Falconry enthusiasts will absolutely love the detail on breeding programmes and bird behaviour. It's the sort of place where you come away knowing something you didn't before.

If you're camping or caravanning at one of the parks nearby - Annsmuir's closest at just 1.4 miles, or The Rings if you prefer camping - Raptor World fills a rainy afternoon nicely. It's not going to anchor your entire holiday, but paired with walking around Cupar and maybe a visit to the wider Fife countryside, it's a solid half-day out. The location's convenient enough that you're not wasting precious holiday time on the drive.
