South Annsmuir Woods

The woodland walk at South Annsmuir is a proper tonic if you're staying anywhere near Cupar. It's not spectacular in the dramatic sense - no towering cliffs or misty mountain views - but it's the sort of place that grows on you once you're actually in it. Trees crowd in on both sides of the path, and on a grey Fife afternoon there's something quietly rewarding about that.

You're looking at a straightforward woodland stroll through mixed broadleaf, the kind of walk that takes between thirty minutes and an hour depending on how much you're paying attention to what's underfoot. It's accessible enough for families with older kids, though the paths can get muddy and there aren't facilities to speak of. Bring decent boots. The real draw is the peace of it - no carpark queues, no visitor centre gift shop, just trees and space.

Worth fitting in if you're based at Annsmuir Parkhome or any of the other holiday parks within a few miles of here. It's close enough to Cupar for an afternoon outing, but far enough away that you genuinely feel like you've escaped somewhere. Not the sort of place to ring ahead about - just turn up, park sensibly, and take the main path into the woods. It won't take up your whole day, which is precisely the point. Sometimes a decent walk is enough.
