But if you've got teenagers or you're after a proper forest walk without crowds, it's well worth the drive from Alnwick.

Bring decent footwear because it can be boggy, and don't expect facilities. There's no visitor centre, no cafe, none of that. Just trees and quiet. On its own, it's a quick detour rather than a destination, but for anyone who genuinely enjoys being among proper forest, it delivers.
