Redwings Caldecott

Just outside Great Yarmouth, Redwings Caldecott is a horse sanctuary that gives you proper insight into what happens when neglected or unwanted horses get a second chance. You walk around the grounds watching these animals graze, rest, and genuinely seem content - which sounds simple enough, but there's something moving about it.

The sanctuary rescues horses from difficult situations and lets them live out their days in peace. It's educational without being preachy. Kids find it engaging because they can actually see the horses rather than just reading about them, though don't expect amusement park levels of activity - this is about quiet observation and understanding.

It's free to visit, which is brilliant, and you can spend anything from forty minutes to a couple of hours depending on how long you linger. Best visited when the weather's decent since you're outdoors most of the time. Spring through early autumn works well.
